Some Probus groups hibernate for the winter when so many members are overseas or travelling north. However, for our August meeting we decided to play! Not so much “when the cat’s away the mice do play”, but more ‘let’s take this opportunity to celebrate friendship and get to know each other better’. In addition, three new members were formally inducted to the club. President Shane warmly welcomed Pat Cook, Tony Gualano and Heather Lukaks.
We shared morning tea while completing “A Human Treasure Hunt”. We discovered all sorts of things: e.g., those who had travelled the furthest to get here, can speak more than two languages well, play a musical instrument, and share similar hobbies, recreational or cultural pursuits.
Afterwards we sat at tables and played “Probus Survivor”! Members received roles and had to collaborate to prioritise resources and activities to survive an emergency plane landing while on a Probus adventure to the Flinders Ranges. Few needed help to play a character. It seems Bearbrass is blessed with talented actors and resourceful members!
We debriefed and transitioned from the intensity of the exercise with a quick activity called “Broken Telephone”. While the whispered message (“The hairy lizard makes coffee for the lazy hare”) transformed into some ridiculously humorous sentences, one team won a bag of Toblerone because they lost only one word!
There was still a bit of time before lunch, so we played a quick 12 question Trivia Quiz. One team collected a bag of Mars Bars with a score of 9. It became apparent our members haven’t watched SUCCESSION given there were 5 points for naming the Roy family!
Then, as usual, we went of for a very enjoyable lunch at TAP831.
