In place of the normal monthly meeting in March 2025, there will be a trip away to the Rutherglen Wine Region, similar to what was done to Heathcote in 2023.
Rutherglen is one of the oldest wine regions in Australia and is renown for “big reds”, luscious, fortified dessert and after dinner wines and some very affordable and interesting whites. Something there for all wine tastes!
Whilst precise details will be finalised closer to the event, the broad details are as follows:
- Travel to Rutherglen on Monday March 17th, returning Thursday 20th March
- Transport via private car (car pooling is encouraged) or public transport via VLine train and bus
- Accommodation will be individually booked at a preferred location (ideal for everyone to stay at the same place) with double rooms costing in the range of $160 to $180 per night. There can be an opportunity for singles sharing if requested. We will advise the preferred location once attendees are finalised
- Wine tasting will be done on the Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m., travelling around the wineries by minibus or stretch limo, the cost of which will be shared and depend upon the numbers attending. With 11 attendees the cost will be $69 per head per day. If we have more than 11 attendees another vehicle will need to be hired. The cost would then vary from $102 per person per day with 12 attendees, ranging down to $72 per person per day if we are fully subscribed
- Lunch will be organised for Tuesday and Wednesday at a winery and hopefully paid individually
- Breakfast will be organised individually with plenty of options available in the main street
- Dinner on Monday night will be at the Poachers Paradise Hotel, a BBQ at the accommodation on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday, dinner at Tuileries Restaurant, with a fixed menu to facilitate ease of payment.
