Archaeology in Melbourne’s CBD

Jen Porter is the Artefact Manager for Ochre Imprints and has practised as an archaeologist for over twenty years. Her work has taken her to PNG, Tasmania, and NSW but she conducts most of her work within Victoria, particularly historic archaeological sites within greater Melbourne and the CBD.

While Jen has worked in both indigenous archaeology and settler archaeology, most of her time is now spent managing and analysing the large assemblages excavated from historical sites. Jen has worked on some of Australia’s most iconic sites, including Little Lon (Casselden Place), Port Arthur, Cascade’s Female Factory, and the Metro Tunnel Town Hall precinct, some of these sites yielding  hundreds of thousands of artefacts. Jen also specializes in producing Heritage Interpretation Displays, and enjoys the opportunity to share the wonderful archaeological finds with the broader general public. She is passionate about heritage and about making it accessible to all.
