The theme for our most recent wine-tasting was "Stellenboch and Surrounds". Our organiser, Linda R, had just returned from a trip to South Africa and demonstrated a well researched understanding of South African wines by curating the following for our pleasure:
- 2023 Carinus Rooidraai Chenin Blanc
- 2024 Carinus Colombard
- 2023 Thorn & Daughter Copper Pot Pinot Noir
- 2024 Wolf & Woman Pinotage
- 2022 Mullineux Kloof Street Rouge
- 2023 Radford Dale Frankenstein Pinotage
The Pinotage (Pinot Noir crossed with Cinsault – known in SA as Hermitage, hence Pinotage) wines were a surprise for most and very drinkable, and the Chenin Blanc was the standout of the two whites.
The Radford Dale Frankenstein Pinotage, was considered to be the best red, decided before we all knew it was also the most expensive, at $61 per bottle.
Another very interesting and enjoyable wine tasting. Cheers!!
