Seven walkers left Southern Cross Station in perfect sunny and mild walking weather. We caught the tram to Swanston St to save some time, then walked a total of three kilometres. We gathered at the Bali (Bombing) Memorial in Lincoln Square that pays tribute to the 91 Australians (including 22 Victorians) tragically killed. Our next stop was the medical history museum in Bouverie Street, Carlton. It contains the nineteenth century Savory and Moore Pharmacy that was originally located in London at 29 Chapel Street, Belgrave. The pharmacy operated from 1849 to 1968 and the furniture and fittings were donated to the Medical History Museum in 1971. Most of the bottles and jars came from the Palmer’s Pharmacy, Ballarat, most with their contents of the period 1870-1890.We went to the Science Gallery on the site of the former Women’s Hospital on the corner of Swanston St and Grattan St, closing in 2008. The dental hospital in the next building has a fascinating museum, however the dental extraction keys look like they should be in medieval torture chambers
Into Faraday St to look at La Mama Theatre. It was founded in 1967, destroyed by fire in 2018, restored and reopened in 2021. La Mama's list of alumni includes notable Australian theatre artists such as David Williamson, Cate Blanchett, Jack Hibberd, Graeme Blundell, Judith Lucy and Julia Zemiro.
We chose Market Lane Coffee shop in Faraday St, one off the corner of Drummond St – it proved to be an expensive choice.
