Apr 21, 2024 1:00 PM - Apr 23, 2024
You are invited to join other members for a 2 night stay in Daylesford. Daylesford has just been voted as one of the 10 most welcoming cities in the world, by Booking.com. Daylesford is noted for its natural mineral springs, art scene and spa offerings. The region is also renowned for its local culinary scene and farm-to-table dining. Some of the possible experiences include: The Convent Gallery. Lake House run by chef Alla Wolf-Tasker. The Farmers Arms Hotel, Cliffy's Emporium, Pancho and The Larder. Lake Daylesford The Mill Markets - antiques and collectibles. Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens. Mineral springs and day spas. Sunday Market. 8am - 1pm Enjoy a guided walking history tour. Vincent St has eclectic shops and gold rush era architecture. Trentham Falls - one of the longest single drop waterfalls in Victoria. Unique country towns nearby eg. Maldon, Castlemaine. 'Art in the Vines' Sculpture at Hanging Rock Winery.
The motel accommodation is very close to Vincent St. The motel owner has offered us the reduced rate of $145/ night / single occupant and $150/ night/ double. Both tariffs include a continental breakfast available in the dining room. I would suggest booking early by phoning directly (5348 3388), leaving credit card details and mentioning your Bearbrass Probus membership. If you wish to extend your stay, the reduced rate is available for mid-week nights. There is, of course, your option of finding accommodation elsewhere. Closer to departure, I will set up a What's App group for sharing photos and information about the treasures you discover. There will also be the opportunity to dine as a group. It is always a treat to step away from Melbourne and enjoy the splendour of autumn in the country.

Hi Friend So far (April 9) we've had 12 acceptances for Werribee Sewerage Farm and Birdlife Tour, Wed June 5, along with 16 declines and 49 undecideds. As I'm going overseas for a month shortly, I need to ensure we have a full bus of 23 people, i.e. to fill 11 more seats and maintain the per-person total cost of $54 (bus plus site tour). Before I invited starters from other Probus clubs to join us, I'd like to give Bearbrass members priority till Monday April 15. So if you'd like to come, please hit the "Register" link on this email. Thanks! Tony

Depart Dock Library 9am, back by 3.15pm. Cost is $36 per head for the bus, $18 pp for tour, plus whatever you want to spend on lunch ($20-30). Guests welcome, first come first served. "Glass full of wine"
Jul 09, 2024
Wine writer and historian Michael Hince takes a look at the history of wine in print in its various guises from the late 1950s to today, when on-line and social media has spawned a plethora of wine bloggers. This is a fascinating look at the genesis of Australia's modern wine industry through the eyes, words and pages of those who wrote and spoke about it. If you have a nose for wine, enjoy an odd glass or two and like reading about wine and gastronomy, you will enjoy this entertaining glimpse into Australia's contemporary world of wine words. |

It is suggested that you arrive at 6pm for a 6.30pm start
Meals and drinks are ordered at the bar and pay as you go unless you are seated in the Dining Room in which case, you order at the table and pay before you leave.
Thursday evenings are also ‘Pasta Night’ so they have a couple on special.
It’s a fun night with prizes for the winners, though it's really only about having a fun night.
If you would like to attend, please contact Cheryl Markham (preferably on the Wednesday) so that she can book tables accordingly.
Please note that Trivia at the Nixon is not an official Bearbrass Probus event, so is not covered by PSPL insurance.

The walking group meets monthly to walk around various landmarks close to the city. Walks are generally around 5k and certainly no further than 8k with big hills avoided. A suitable stop for coffee is normally part of the walk. It is a good opportunity to get some exercise and have a chat at the same time. Members of the group take it in turns to plan and lead the walk.

Deep into the Forest: What lies behind the walls of the "Sanctuary"?
Sep 10, 2024
Erina Reddan thought she’d had a pretty ordinary childhood, but when she started writing about a woman who discovers terrible secrets about The Sanctuary, a neighbouring closed community, she realised that she too had grown up in a kind of cult. She lived on an isolated farm in a religious community with rules about what you ate, and when, and she never met or interacted with anybody who wasn’t of the same faith. It wasn’t until decades later when the Royal Commission revealed that her nearby town was one of the hot spots for paedophilia in Victoria that she saw just how harmful giving a leader the authority of God was. |
