Margaret Preston Art exhibition

The art of Margaret Pan art, the Arts and craft movement, and japanreston  has shaped the  cultural and aesthetic landscape of Australia. Born in Adelaide in 1875, Preston (nee McPherson) studied in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne, before travelling  extensively across England and Europe. Participating in the growing discousces surroundnin modernism, Preston began to merge a variety of influences, such as Post impressinsm, primitvism in Europe, the Arts and Craft movement  and Japanese uklyo-e.

The walk this month will be a continuation of the top of Swanston St walk. Meet at 9:00 at Southern Cross Station. See the attached photo showing the meeting point on the upper level. (Enter the station from the corner of Spencer St and Collins St and go up two escalators or enter directly from Collins St opposite tram stop D14.) We will visit interesting buildings and museums – those we missed on the last walk when a visit to the rooftop of the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre turned into a guided tour of the building. Bearbrass Book Club meets on the third Monday of each month at Little Bean, 850 Collins Street, Melbourne. Before officially beginning the meeting at 11:30am, we take the opportunity to start themorning with a coffee.  There is also the option to stay on for lunch following the meeting.  Each month, the discussion is led by a club member, with books and leaders planned ahead for the year.  New members are warmly welcomed!

Come along to the Wharf Hotel on the first and third Tuesday of each month for a friendly board game or Mahjong.

No prior experience needed. Mahjong coaches will happily introduce new players to this fascinating game.

Otherwise, join in on Scrabble or bring along your favourite game.

The Photography Group offers a social get together to discuss our recent photos, share experience and maybe, just maybe, learn something. You don’t need a fancy camera to join this group: a smartphone will do, plus an interest in improving the quality of your photos.

Donna’s message is to share the work that Cottage by the Sea does to enhance the lives of children in need from all around Victoria, by providing inspiration, fun and opportunity within a holiday environment.

Cottage by the Sea is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1890 that provides fun, inspiration and opportunities for children in need in a positive, healthy seaside environment.  Their vision is that every child deserves a happy and healthy childhood.

They’ve supported around 1900 children in the last 12 months, with a wide range of fun, supportive and inspirational activities, building resilience and confidence. Cottage by the Sea is not funded by the government,

This activity targets active, reasonably fit club members who are looking to maintain walking fitness and enjoy the opportunity of longer, more challenging walks. The aims are to maintain gains in walking readiness and to offer a multi-day hike each year.

Walks will be approximately 12kms, or less on more demanding terrain and will finish with lunch at own cost for those interested.

Tour the Port of Melbourne from the water aboard  the Kingfisher 11 launch! The tour takes two hours and gives close views of facilities including Victoria, Appleton, Swanson and Webb docks, and includes  commentary about port operations. Participants will get a close-up view of a major, working port.

Over five days and four nights members of the AW Art group, partners, and interested other Probus members take the opportunity to travel to Tasmania to attend the opening of an exhibition by Stephen Lees (limited numbers) at Despard Gallery and to explore the thriving art scene .across Hobart and surrounding areas.

Participants have a vast choice of activities to do as a group or individually.

Festive season magic arrives with bells on for Morning Melodies’ Christmas with an uplifting program filled with timeless carols and beloved hymns. A vibrant big band, choir and special guest artists come together to create an unforgettable festive experience. Artists will be announced closer to the date.
