September: Bearbrass Walking Group

Docklands Pubilc Art Walk. Approximately a 5 kilometer walk in and around the precint of Docklands. During the walk there is an opportunity to view artworks situated in the parks, promenades and built into the architecture and landscape.

The walk is mostly on  paved flat surfaced walkways.

The weather maybe cool so wear warm clothes and sturdy shoes. 

Meet at 9.30am, corner Spencer and Collins Street under the clock tower at Spencer Street station.

Cards/500/Bridge is held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 1:30 pm to 4.30 pm at the Mission to Seafarer's, 717 Flinders Street, Docklands.

It is a free event, however, to support the Mission to Seafarer's we suggest buying a drink or two    

We welcome all levels of players.  If you've never played these card games before and would like to learn, we are only too happy to have you join in.  So why not come along and enjoy some friendship and fun along the way.  The games are very relaxed - evidenced by the smiles on the faces around the room.

The next wine tasting night is scheduled for Friday 27^th September.

As usual, we will consider a collection of 6 wines which are thematically related. I am currently in Norway so won’t be able to divulge the theme to registered and paid up tasters until next week when Neil and I are back in Melbourne. In the meantime, group members will have to trust me!

This will be held on the first Tuesday of every month, commencing in March, at either the
Kino in Collins St. Melbourne or the Nova in Lygon St Carlton.
The choice of movie will based generally on what is popular at the time and the film's commencement time (generally aim for between 4pm - 5pm) .
After the movie, members of the group have the option to join others at a nearby restaurant.

Players of all abilities welcome including beginners, no prior experience required. 

If you have a mahjong set to bring along, that would be helpful but not necessary.

Dear Golf Enthusiasts,

Now the weather is kinder, perhaps you are interested in playing another round of golf with like minded Probarians?  Malvern Valley Public Golf Course is in Malvern East, about 15 minutes from the CBD.  Please bring your own clubs and buggy unless you would prefer to hire these at the Pro Shop. Cost for 18 holes is $34.30 or $25.50 for 9 holes. Pensioner/Senior Concession available also.

Once I know confirmed numbers I will make the appropriate number of group bookings. I would hope for us to start about 10.00am.

Professor Michelle Giles is a doctor and researcher at the University of Melbourne and Doherty Institute. Professor Giles specialises in vaccination and is currently Deputy Chair of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI). Michelle will speak about the several new vaccines being recommended for older adults (Shingles and RSV) and will provide an opportunity for members to ask questions.Michelle is Head of Vaccine Research Group | Infectious Diseases Physician

The venue for the monthly general meeting is the Community Hub at the Dock which  is  located next to the Library at The Dock and Buluk Park, on the extension of Collins Street in Docklands (in the direction of North Wharf Road towards the Bolte Bridge).

We will be meeting in the large multipurpose room on the first floor.  Go up the stairs or in the lift and walk down the hall towards the back of the building.

Those interested in going on for dinner nearby should advise the convenor of that in the notes field in the event invitation.

A suitable stop for coffee is normally part of the walk.  It is a good opportunity to get some exercise and have a chat at the same time. Members of the group take it in turns to plan and lead the walk.

Following the success of a few casual Sunday Roasts in 2023, it has been decided to add them to the formal Probus Events Calendar.
What is involved:
Every second month, on the third Sunday of that month,  members will be invited to join a Sunday Roast Lunch.
These lunches will be held at different pub venues that offer Sunday Roast Specials (as well as their regular menu) and ideally, provide a separate area for Probus members to gather together.  Members pay for their drinks and meals separately.

An invitation will be sent out 3 weeks prior to each lunch, with all bookings closing the Monday prior to the organized date, OR, once venue limited numbers have been reached.  (some venues have limited numbers available) If Members are interested in attending and securing a place, they just need to RSVP to the email invitation.

All lunches will commence at 12.30 and it is anticipated that all venues will be easily accessible by Public Transport.

Bearbrass Book Club meets on the third Monday of each month in the meeting room at Concavo-Convesso Apartments, Docklands 3008.  Members usually have a morning coffee at Saluministi Cafe, ground floor Concavo-Convesso Apartments, before officially beginning the meeting at 11:30am.  There is always the option to stay on for lunch following the meeting.  Each month, the discussion is led by a club member, with books and leaders planned ahead for the year.  New members are warmly welcomed! 

The book under discussion in October is "Stone Yard Devotional" by Charlotte Wood and the discussion leader is Vanessa. 

Come along and join other embroiderers knitters jewellers and artists with pieces you are working on or anything you would like to share or learn.

I have made a group booking for Sister Act :The Musical , at The Regent Theatre, starring Casey Donovan and Rhonda Burchmore, based on the iconic film which starred Whoopi Goldberg. Seats have been reserved in the dress circle, however if accessability via stairs is difficult, I can book separate seats in the stalls. ( Please advise in the comments section below if this applies to you.)

This is for the matinee show and if there is enough interest, we may follow up with a drink and/or dinner.
